Investigation Case File: Smiling Orb

The Weird Investigation desk received three images via email detailing what the witness described as a face in light woodland.  The three images showed the same piece of woodland and path and feature a cat on the path.  The cat was the main reason the pictures were taken.  The images are almost identical but are taken from slightly different angles.  The face only appears in one image (see image) and can be seen just to the top-right of center.

The face appears in what is commonly referred to as an Orb, which most commonly is seen under low light settings when using a camera flash.  More details on the causes of orbs can be read at the Wiki Optics Page.

Looking at the image closely we can see the face the witness has described.

The ‘face’ is pareidolia and not really a face, even though it appears to have two eyes and a smiling mouth.  Pareidolioa  is the reason we see the face of Jesus on Toast, faces in wood and faces in clouds.
