A long lost painting has been returned to a haunted house, bringing a close to the ghostly encounters.

Heale House in Devon had had numerous visits from a pale Edwardian figure which was always accompanied by the music of Chopin. The mysterious ghost stopped appearing after a painting of a lady sitting at a piano was returned to the drawing room of the mansion. Mr Smith recognised the lady in the painting as being the ghost and learned that she had previously lived at the house.

The story came to light after Mr Smith took the painting to the Antiques Roadshow.

The Daily Mail report on this here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2102910/Thats-spooky-How-ghost-sightings-mansion-stopped-return-long-lost-painting.html#ixzz1mqAISjVL

Scientists are looking to form a team to look into rumors of pyramids lying beneath West Java’s Mount Sadahurip and Mount Padang.

A meeting was held on Friday where members of the Ancient Catastrophic Studies Team, along with representatives from various other ministries looked at funding, expertise and equipment needed for the project.

Hilman said that finding pyramids in Indonesia, , would possibly rewrite the history of the world.

He said, “We could prove that our ancient civilizations were much more advanced than previously believed, even long before the Majapahit ….. we [showed ministry officials] geological and geophysical research, which indicate that ancient ruins lie beneath the mountains,”

Mount Sadahurip, located in Garut district, has been claimed to be too pyramidal in shape to be a natural occurrence.

The disappearance of Lord Lucan seems to have taken a new turn after nearly 40 years. People have claimed to have spotted him living in various places around the world from Australia to India. A new witness has claimed that she assisted in sending his two children to him in Gabon, Africa, shortly after his disappearance in 1974.

Using the pseudonym Jill Findlay said,

“Instructions were to make arrangements for John Bingham, also known as Lord Lucan to see his children and to do that I had to book his two eldest children on flights to Africa,”

“It was in Gabon from what I understand, their father would observe them and see them which is what he wanted to do just see how they were growing up and look at them from a distance”

An interview with Nick Redfern which was conducted back in 2009 as part of our Weird 09 conference. Questions supplied by Kevin Goodman.

When did you first become aware of the UFO phenomenon and how did it affect you?

I’ve never personally seen a UFO, so I’ve never actually had that life-changing style event that a lot of people in Ufology have experienced. So, in that sense, I’ve always been quite emotionally unattached to the controversy, and I wouldn’t say the UFO subject has ever affected me from an emotional perspective at all. I got interested because my father was in the RAF. He worked on radar and was involved in a couple of radar-based incidents in the 50s, and this got me interested when he told me about it – when I was probably about 12, 13, something like that. So, I became very fascinated by the subject, and I still am: but only from the perspective of a detached outsider. But, as for it affecting me, no. It’s an interest for me, but not a way of life or something I obsess over. I don’t stare at the stars every night! Me and my wife do all the normal things: go down the English-theme-pubs here in Dallas on the weekend, watch the telly, go to the footy (yes, there is a league over here!), etc. UFOs are an interest, but that’s it. And I actually wouldn’t want it to be anymore than that. All that ‘the aliens are here to save us; praise the aliens’ stuff makes me want to puke. When people get that attached to, and affected by, the UFO subject it becomes as bad as – and an equivalent of – the world’s biggest scourge: religion.

How did you make the transition from a UFO buff to an acknowledged expert on the subject?

I actually don’t consider myself – or anyone else in the subject either – to be a literal expert. After all, how is it possible to be an expert on a subject, when we don’t actually even know what lies at the heart of the subject? Rather, I would consider myself (and everyone else in the subject) as someone who collects a lot of data, researches it, analyses it, and then puts it out there for others to see. I’m not sure at all that any of this makes a person an expert by definition – purely because we have never found any firm answers about the truly unexplained aspects of Ufology. I’m sure there are a lot of pompous ufological types who do consider themselves experts, however! But, they’re definitely not: they just have lots of filing cabinets filled with lots of data and absolutely no firm answers – just like me and everyone else in the subject!

The publishing industry seems moribund regarding the subject these days. How hard has it been for you to get your later books published?

I wouldn’t say it has been difficult at all to get my latest books published. I think what has happened in the period since my first book (‘A Covert Agenda’) was published in 1997, is that the publishing market – in terms of specific, larger publishing companies – has dropped massively. So, whereas my first 7 books (‘A Covert Agenda;’ ‘The FBI Files;’ ‘Cosmic Crashes;’ ‘Strange Secrets;’ ‘Three Men Seeking Monsters;’ ‘Body Snatchers in the Desert;’ and ‘Celebrity Secrets’) were all published by Simon & Schuster, today, a lot of the bigger publishers aren’t that interested anymore in putting out UFO books. But, there are still plenty of good, smaller publishers – like Patrick Huyghe’s Anomalist Books, who do an absolutely excellent job, and who published my ‘On the Trail of the Saucer Spies;’ ‘There’s Something in the Woods;’ and who will be publishing my next book, ‘Sci-Fi Secrets.’ Anomalist Books are a great, dedicated and enthusiastic team, and I’m happy to have them publish my books as long as they want to. So, really, it’s just trends, the specific publishing companies, and the size of the market that have changed, rather than the actual, literal ability to get published.

Being Birmingham born and bred, what made you decide to move to the United States?

Well, I’ve always enjoyed traveling, and when I was 17 or 18, me and 3 of my mates went down to Brixham for 3 years and lived in a caravan down there – which was pretty much an Animal House type time LOL – , and that’s where I got a lot of experience in writing for magazines, which set me off on the road to journalism and books. In fact, if I didn’t live here, I’d go back to Devon: I love it down there. And, in the 90s, I spent quite a bit of time in the US, Mexico, Switzerland and France too, and enjoyed the life of traveling around, living out of run-down motels and B&Bs for (literally!) months, and just maintaining a mailing address in the UK. It was kind of funny that a lot of people assumed I always lived in the Midlands, not realizing that I had a postal address I’d check in with once every few months – but that I was on the road for most of my mid-twenties to early thirties. Then, 9 years ago, I met my wife Dana, who grew up in the Cayman Islands, and we spent a lot of time (about a year or so) going back and forth from England to the US (although Cayman, she was living just outside Houston, Texas at the time), then getting married and staying in the US. Luckily, she likes the same lifestyle as me, and I think we have lived in 10 flats or rooms in the 9 years we have been together – which included returning to England to live for a year in 2006. When I moved to the US, I took 2 suitcases of clothes, my collection of punk-rock CDs, and my last couple of hundred quid in the world – literally. Lots of people in ufology were gob-smacked when they found out I took my entire UFO collection (aside from a few old MoD files that Dave Clarke and Andy Roberts had off me) to the council-tip because there was no way I could afford to take all that to the US! But I told everyone – well in advance of my move – that all my files, books, magazines etc were available, but no-one could be bothered to drive and pick it up from me – for free, even, which I thought was amazing! When I left England, my wife didn’t have a job, she was broke. I didn’t have a job, I was flat broke – and it was just a case of me blagging for work in the US when I got off the plane, and us literally trying to keep a roof over our heads and survive in what was a new environment for both of us. But we did it, we pulled ourselves up, and I was able to get back on my feet, and continue the writing. And, again, I enjoy just hitting the road with a rucksack, etc. I’ve never really worried about the future. I go a week at a time, and as for what happens next week..well, I’ll find out next week. I don’t give a monkeys, really.

Many of your earlier books were very pro towards the subject, and some critics seem to feel that your stance has changed? Is this the case and if so, how did this come about?

Well, my views on certain cases have definitely changed – such as on Roswell. But I am still a very firm believer in the existence of a genuine UFO mystery, but I kind of left the ETH behind around 2000. I veer today much more towards a Keel-ian/Vallee approach: the whole trickster, and messengers of deception approach. So, yes, my stance has changed. But not to a sceptic – just to the idea that the ETH probably isn’t correct. People sometimes find it odd that I can believe in UFOs but that I can also dismiss Roswell. I don’t get that. Why is it necessary to embrace Roswell into the picture all the time?

Now, with a number of books behind you, what are your thoughts on the UFO phenomenon?

Today, I think the UFO subject can probably be explained via several phenomena: classified military vehicles, poorly understood natural phenomena, and a genuine UFO mystery that has intelligence behind it, but that probably isn’t extraterrestrial. It might very well be Tulpa/thought-form based. I quite like Mac Tonnies’ ‘cryptoterrestrial’ theory too.

Crypto zoology now seems to be one of your main interests. You are now the director of the US office of the British centre of Fortean Zoology. What does that entail?

Actually, a lot of people are surprised when they find that my interest in crypto goes back much longer than my interest in UFOs, and that I’ve actually written more crypto books than UFO books! I went to Loch Ness as a kid, and that got me fascinated, and I started doing crypto investigations around (I think) 87/88, something like that. Then in the 90s I met Jon Downes – who is without doubt my closest friend in Forteana – who runs the Centre for Fortean Zoology in Devon. Me and Jon (and Richard Freeman, the zoological director of the CFZ) did a lot of work together from around 1996 to 2001 – and I practically (really!) lived, worked and slept on Jon’s settee for a good percentage of the entire period from 1998 to 2000. When I moved to the US in 2001, I set up a US office of Jon’s group, and we do a lot of expeditions: me and Jon went to Puerto Rico in 2004 to search for the Chupacabras. I’ve done a lot of expeditions over here into Bigfoot, lake-monsters, etc. And, so that’s the bulk of the work: getting out into the field, doing research, and trying to figure out what the hell these creatures are!

Have you found the attitude on the other side of the Atlantic different with regards UFOs and fortean subjects?

That’s a very good question. I would definitely say as far as UFOs are concerned, the whole ETH is very dominating in the US. And, as for cryptozoology, it’s very much ‘flesh-and-blood’ driven. Alternative, esoteric theories aren’t that popular among the mainstream fortean communities over here. I don’t care though. If people aren’t open to alternatives, to hell with them. There’s nothing worse than a mind-made-up – even if it’s a believer’s mind.

Your 2006 book, On the trail of the saucer spies is about government surveillance of UFO researchers and contactees. Why do you think that the various governments take such a clandestine interest in such people, considering that they always seem to deny any fascination in the subject?

Well, as my book demonstrates, the reasons why people within Ufology were being watched (for the most part, at least) actually had nothing to do with UFOs. Rather, it was the political issues that some of the people embraced that led to the secret surveillance. Such as the FBI watching George Adamski because he said his alien friends were communists. So, the FBI was concerned that Adamski was spreading communism, but under the guise of talking about Saucers. And it is that broad theme that runs through most of the spying on the UFO community: it’s the politics (and sometimes extreme politics) of the players that concern the official world, not their alleged alien contacts or involvement in Ufology per se. But, that still makes it a fascinating story – it’s just not the story that a lot of people expect to hear – or even want to hear.

The whole UFO topic continues to evolve, from motherships to Triangles, from perfect human looking aliens to the now archetypal Grey. Where do you think we will be in say another 50 years research into the subject?

I’m absolutely certain that the next 50 years will be the same as the previous 50 years. A lot of research will be done, a lot of theories will be discussed, a lot of books will be written, and a lot of people will shout very loudly at other people who disagree with them! I am also certain that 50 years from now, we still won’t know what UFOs are, and people will still be debating about bloody Roswell! The Triangles, the Greys, etc will probably be long gone, and replaced by…well…I’m not sure what. But I’m certain the alien ‘motif’ will be very different. Then again, I have no faith at all that the Human Race will survive much longer – I think we have passed the peak, and it’s pretty much down hill from here for the next couple of centuries. So, it may not matter; as 50 years from now there might not be many people left to care about the occasional weird thing seen in the sky! And if – as I believe – the UFO puzzle could well be Tulpa-based, if there’s no-one left to believe in UFOs or the Tulpas themselves, then they may slowly fade away and out of existence too.

Steve Dewey, co-author with John Ries of In Alien Heat, and Kevin Goodman, author of Cradle of Contact, are considered experts on the Warminster events in the 1960s and 1970s. We spent a couple of pleasant hours on top of a warm and sunny Cradle Hill talking about Warminster, ‘The Thing’ and UFOs in general.

Weird Wiltshire: How did you get involved with UFO’s and Warminster?

Steve Dewey: For me I lived here. I was thirteen when I read Shuttlewoods’ books. We didn’t realise there was anything happening here. In the 1960′s it was a big thing, in the 70′s it had gone quiet. When we were fourteen we wandered up here and that’s how it started. For around four years before I became a student, we would walk about once a week around the hills. There were very few people who spent more nights looking at the sky than my friends and I in the 70′s.

Kevin Goodman: I mirror Steve to a degree, I was thirteen or fourteen and came across the re-print of the Warminster Mystery. This was the first time I had come across something happening in this country. To find somewhere in moderate distance of where I lived was fantastic. I wrote a letter to Arthur Shuttlewood in 1976 asking where I could stay in the town. I stayed at the Foundation Center, Star House and the rest is history.

WW: What kept bringing you back to the hill?

KG: A lot of it was the social side. You were up here with like-minded individuals to start with and it was always to want to see that elusive genuine UFO. Being up here you do very quickly cut your teeth and you do know how to differentiate between a satellite, a meteor, aircraft or something you cannot explain. As Steve will tell you there are two sightings that I cannot explain rationally.

SD: For me, as I say it was a nice walk around the hills and we were of that mind that was interested in all that stuff and if you are going to go for a walk, this was the best place. What Kev said about the social thing was true as well. As a group it was an interesting thing to do on a Saturday night. We could come up here and light a bonfire. When you’re eighteen or nineteen what better thing to do than sit up here by a fire and watch the stars. It was a lovely thing to do.

KG: You were amongst like-minded individuals and you didn’t feel an outsider. You could talk about weird concepts and people wouldn’t snigger at you. They would listen to you and have their own opinions. Which was great. I think we live in a more enlightened society now, but in the 70′s you were almost like social outcasts.

WW: What’s the most interesting thing you have seen up here?

SD: Nothing.

KG: There were four red lights coming across the sky all equally distanced apart. They flashed for about five minutes and then shot some beams of light down on what we assumed was the ground over the army camp. Then the extreme left hand one, which was the lead object, shot off at speed and about a minute later the other three shot straight up.

WW: How would you sum up the events in the 70′s?

SD In the 70′s people were still interested in Warminster. There were still people coming who knew about Warminster, but nothing like the same frequency or numbers in the 60′s. When we used to walk around the hills we could find as many as twenty to thirty people here.

KG: It was a chance to get hands on into UFO’s. It’s fine reading books, it’s fine re-reading stuff that has been re-hashed over and over, but to actually come to somewhere where there were reported UFO sightings, at a density I think that has never really been repeated, it was the place to be in the 70′s. You had that second generation of researches/believers.

SD: When the Warminster books were re-printed in 1973 we avidly read them.

KG: When I came down in 1976 I only knew that Shuttlewood had written the Warminster Mystery, it was only when I went to Star House that I was told he had written three books with a fourth due out in November. So I was overdosing on them from day one, almost playing catch-up.

WW: Going back to the 60′s there was a series of events before the town was besieged. At that time there were no sightings, just noises, then the sightings began. What do you think about these events?

SD: If you read the Warminster Mystery closely people started hearing noises from December 1964. In May 1965, before Shuttlewood was known about, he had lights reported to him. The problem for anyone researching this is that what happens in his book and the journals are two different things. If you go back and read the journal it is nowhere as near as exciting as the book. So there are reports of lights in the sky before the big event. We’ll come to the big event in a minute.

KG: The way I look at Warminster now is different to the way I looked at it thirty years ago. I do thank Steve for this to a certain extent. I think it was a social cultural phenomenon as well in as such there was a certain amount of mass hysteria, which the press had a lot to do with, especially when the big event happened. There is a story that there was a public meeting on the August Bank Holiday in 1965 and it’s the only time the pubs ran dry in Warminster! Someone asked how many of you have seen ‘The Thing?’ and in the packed hall about four people put their hands up. It makes you question if this was being reported out of proportion. But I will maintain to my dying day that something happened in this town, but what is it I don’t know and I don’t think we ever will now.

SD: So, the big event is next. We are talking about Faulkner’s photograph. It was published in the Daily Mirror in September 1965. I think if I’m not wrong Shuttlewood had already sent stories to the papers but there was no photograph. It was the photograph that made a big difference. That was when large numbers of people wanted to come to Warminster.

KG: I was heavily into photography in my youth and I was of the opinion that the Faulkner photograph possibly could be genuine, as you can see every individual grain on the film emulsion because it had been blown up. The description given of the taking of the picture, was A silvery fast moving object in the sky. I just pointed my camera and as it entered the viewfinder I took the photo’.

It is one of the iconic UFO photographs.

SD: I would agree, what struck me is that if it was a fake why was it a tiny little dot in the corner that they would then have to blown up? This is the only photograph I know of where it’s an appalling photograph and only looks good when you blow it up. So for a long time I was convinced on that basis.

KG: And it looked three-dimensional. A lot of fake photographs are stuck on silhouettes. But as Steve will tell you the debate on the validity of the photo has been put to bed.

SD: The trouble with hoaxes is that until the hoaxer comes out and says ‘I did it’ there will always be arguments. I can tell you what I have heard but people who really want to believe will believe. All you can do is search around for witnesses who may have a different version of the story. That is what I found. There are two stories about the photograph and mine is one of them. My version is that I knew someone who knew Faulkner. He had lived with him for some time and during a conversation one night Faulkner confessed he hoaxed the photograph. A lot of people came here to hoax; he wouldn’t have been the first. Hoaxing is an important part of the phenomenon. The photo is a hoax because of what I know, but my book goes into more detail. Faulkner still maintains that it is genuine.

WW: Why did you create the UFO Warminster website?

KG: Initially it was created as there was nothing on the web that was solely dedicated to the Warminster phenomenon. There are other sites that mention it, but nothing that specifically caters for it. Steve and I thought why not set one up.

SD: There are people out there who know more than us but we can’t find them, but because of our research we know an awful lot about the subject.

WW: The sites mission is to be the repository for events that occurred in Warminster?

SD: My aim is that there is no opinion on the site. My intention is that you can find what you want and make your own mind up.

KG; The main thing is to keep the awareness of this phenomenon alive.

WW: What can we expect next from the site?

SD: As we get more information we will put it on the web. So you know where to go to find out about Warminster.

KG: It will be a library. Next big thing is to put UFO INFO magazine on-line and clippings from original newspapers.

WW: Could you say a few words about your books?

KG: It’s a rite of passage book, cutting your UFO teeth in the 1970′s. Although Warminster was popular then it was poorly documented. It’s my experiences of my time in the town.

SD: Mine is an investigation from the 60′s to the 70′s. It tries to set the events in a cultural context. Warminster was a new sighting but it had its own specific context. We are a small rural Wiltshire town who hosted one of the biggest UFO events in the UK.

Weird Wiltshire: What is the future of Ufology?

Kevin Goodman: What’s the next big thing? I don’t know. If I had a crystal ball I would be there tomorrow. Ufology in general in the country is in the doldrums. I think there are far too many people who are prepared to knock it at the moment. People are afraid to come forward and say they have seen something. There is the famous story about the “Dorito” over the west midlands. Which people have said “Oh it’s a Vulcan bomber.”

Steve Dewey: Only one person said it was a bomber and about 5,000 people jumped on him and said don’t be ridiculous. It would have made a lot of noise, it would have had navigation lights and not just 3 blobs.

KG: If you look at statistics for sightings that were reported to the MOD when the X-Files were on, they peaked. Because “I want to believe” is the old tag line. Ufology is stagnant at the moment. There is nothing really big happening and you know we live in a more enlightened age. People now know what to look for now. People are being a lot more selective if they come forward and say they have seen something they cannot explain.

WW: There was an increase in sightings from 2006 to 2007.

SD: I was going to say I just don’t agree. People still see stuff and they still write reports. There have been a lot of Tai Lanterns mistaken for UFO’s recently and those have been reported to local newspapers. On the UFO UK list people are picking up the reports, so they are being reported. Trouble is people are shooting them down. Before the Internet, people could see stuff and it would be out there for ages and no one would report on it. The Hackney times or whatever would have these sighting reports in their archive for months or years. But now it’s completely different. Somebody reports something on the Internet and people go “Oh its Tai Lanterns.”

WW: There is almost an immediate reaction that was never there before?

KG: I mean it goes back to being up here in the 70′s. Some of the readers of the web site might find this hard to believe but back then there was no such thing as mobile phones. We used to come up here, literally divorced from the world. You could see something and you could log it and write up your notes. The nearest person you could report it to was Arthur Shuttlewood or the Fountain Center. These days you could have someone on Cop Heap or even on Clay Hill and you call and say “Oh look there is something coming over can you see where you are?” There was nothing like that in those days. It was all very much first hand accounts written two or three days later. And then reported later still. And what happened in the intervening time is that people had embellished it slightly.

SD: There is a discussion on the way people create stories. What makes Ufology interesting for most people is the sighting and the excitement. If they were to say “I saw a light in the sky”, it could be the dullest thing in the world, which would last about three seconds in conversation. If you said, not deliberately though, that you had seen the biggest light in the sky… You know like fishing, “I caught the biggest fish”, “I saw the biggest light in the sky and you wouldn’t believe how fantastic it was.” People embellish stories naturally. Again, before the internet people were sitting around in Warminster or wherever, they’d go home and tell the story and someone else would tell someone else and so on.

WW: 95% of sightings can be explained, what do you think the remaining 5% represents?

SD: What I think is if we had more information about that 5% they would be explained as well. There is a kernel of information we cannot get at. If we could get that they could be explained.

WW: How do you think we could get that information?

SD: In a lot of cases I think it’s too difficult. The story is too old or the sighting badly explained or the person may have a belief system and read things into what they saw. So you are not going to get the information. I’ve got no problem with the military doing top secret things, but no-one is going to walk out of the army camp one day and say “Oi, you lot up there, come and have a look at this!”

KG: I think Steve is right to an extent. There is also unknown phenomena like Earth Lights and Ball Lighting.

SD: Yeah, I was counting that in.

KG: I have seen two things I cannot explain up here, but in the whole of the Warminster context and Ufology in general I think that less than one half of one percent could be classified as a UAP. I don’t like using the term UFO these days, because of the connotations it brings up.

(WW Note: UAP: Unidentified Ariel Phenomena) SD: Looking for little green men? It’s about LGM. For researchers it is not about LGM, but for a lot of people it is.

KG: There is one thing also that I have always found interesting is that how the appearance of the ET’s have changed over the years. From Arian Humanoids, then the Close Encounters film comes out and you have your classic Grays and people report they have been abducted or have seen these Grays.

WW: Does it go further? Could you push it back through history to medieval manifestations for example?

SD: I think it’s modern folklore KG: Also how the description of the objects have changed. We had flying saucers, then mother ships, then flying triangles, what’s next? How is it evolving?

SD: What I have found interesting about Ufology, is the small craft, known as scout craft, why are they always 30 feet in diameter?

KG: Because people have read that’s what they are. As time goes on it will be more difficult to investigate the phenomena objectively because it has permeated the human psyche.

WW: The Ministry of Defence are releasing hundreds of UFO reports, do you think there is anything in that data we could gain from?

SD: Probably not. Truth be told.

KG: If there was anything of national security or national importance I think they wouldn’t have released it. I’m not saying there is or that there isn’t.

WW: Any final message for our readers?

SD: Keep an open mind and come and visit this place.

KG: Keep an open mind.

My thanks to Steve and Kevin for a delightful afternoon in Warminster.

We have reported the on-going mystery of the metal boxes found on the Oregan shoreline several times already at Weird Wiltshire. These type of stories come and go and are usually explained very quickly. The boxes are still a mystery as of the 15th of February.

The boxes have been linked to recent UFO sightings in the area

The boxes have appeared up and down the West Coast Beaches

A membrane covers at least seven boxes which has resisted attempts to scrape it off

‘White’ trucks have been seen removing some of the boxes, taking four to six people and heavy chains to do so. (It was claimed earlier this month that the boxes could not be moved at all).

Witnesses describe the boxes as ‘feeling warm’, ‘like nothing they had felt before’

Interestingly, the local authorities claim to have received no reports about the boxes and one Dr. from the Hatfield Marine center has been quoted as saying ” I sent some assistants this weekend to the beach areas that are supposed to have the ‘unmovable’ metal boxes and there is nothing there.”

Everyone appears to have a theory as to the origin of these boxes, but an interesting anomalous comment on this story is re-posted below for comparision purposes.

Two recent internet “news” stories have been circulated by a Dave Masko claiming 5-foot by 5-foot by nearly 1-foot-high metal boxes that made odd sounds had washed up on southern Oregon beaches such as Stonefield and Bray’s Point since the first week of January 2012. The second Masko story referenced William Hanshumaker, Ph.D., who is a Senior Instructor at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon. On Friday morning, February 10, 2012, I talked with Prof. Hanshumaker about the Masko article. Prof. Hanshumaker said he did not know anything about the metal boxes until Masko called his office around 5 PM on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Prof. Hanshumaker said he would make no comment until he saw the metal boxes for himself.

Today, February 14, 2012, Prof. Bill Hanshumaker phoned me to say that assistants he asked to search this past weekend for the alleged metal boxes could find nothing. Further, half a dozen State Police, Coast Guard and police offices I contacted that have jurisdictions along the Oregon beaches do not have any report about metal boxes washed up on beaches to date. KVAL CBS 13 in Eugene, Oregon, east of the beaches, has never had a report of such metal boxes either.

I also contacted the NOAA Marine Debris Program and talked with the West Coast Regional Coordinator, Nir Barnea, who is unaware of any metal box debris. Mr. Barnea did confirm that computer models indicate Japan’s tsunami debris will start washing up on North American west coast beaches in 2013. NOAA is holding public meetings with some beach communities to answer questions. So far, scientists do not think the Japanese debris will have much radioactivity if and when it washes up on west coast beaches.
