British war dead are to be remembered in a ceremony at the country's best known ancient monument.

Representatives of the Royal British Legion and Wiltshire schools and youth groups will assemble at Stonehenge to mark the two minutes' silence at 11am on Saturday, November 11.

Those present plan to form a circle of remembrance around the stones.

At the same time, a similar circle will be formed in the central arena of the Millennium Dome.

The observance and accompanying service will be led by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Lt Gen Sir Maurice Johnston KCB OBE.

The legion's Wiltshire Field Officer, Peter Douglas, said: 'The legion is keen to raise awareness - particularly among young people - of the Two Minute Silence, remembrance and the work the legion does through the Poppy Appeal to support the ex-service community.

'The legion helps people of all ages who have been affected by conflict.

'These circles of remembrance will be emotive events which will emphasise its relevance to children and younger people.'

Visitors to Stonehenge are also welcome to take part.
