A VILLAGE post box is so popular that it keeps overflowing.

During the tourist season at Avebury, postcards posted by tourists completely fill the letter box at the village post office. Villagers often can't get their own letters in, the parish meeting heard.

Wynne Rawlins said that the box, which recently replaced a larger mail box, was far too small. And Mr Vic Paradise said: "I went to put a letter in this morning and it would not go."

Village sub-postmaster Mr Dick Stannard said the box was not big enough once the annual tourist rush started.

The post office engineering department was aware of the problem and had been asked to provide a bigger one, he said.
