LITTER deposited by tourists and children is spoiling the look of Avebury.

Mrs June Douglas, of High Street, told the parish meeting last Tuesday that rubbish was continually blowing into her garden from the large public car park. Parish chairman, Miss Betty Hunter, said there had been a growing problem of rubbish and vandalism in the village.

Young trees planted at the side of the footpath had been damaged and youngsters had used a cupboard as a raft, and abandoned it in the stream, she said. Farmers were also guilty because the rubbish included polythene farm sacks.

There had also been a rash of aerosol graffiti-spraying in the village, said Miss Hunter, Vandals had sprayed the church lychgate, a newly painted cottage and farm buildings.
