VANDALS have daubed paint across four stones at Stonehenge, police said today.

In each case they wrote the word Live on the stones, all of which faced the A344 road.

The vandals, who breached high fences to reach the stones, wrote it in 2ft high letters and attempts are being made to remove the gloss paint.

Stonehenge will be open for celebrations of the Spring Equinox on Wednesday and police believe the vandals may have been intending to visit the stones then.

A police spokesman said: "There is some suspicion that it might have been the work of the people planning to celebrate the Spring Equinox."
