First published on March 23, 1989 AVEBURY Manor's controversial Elizabethan Experience is opening as planned tomorrow. In spite of mounting local opposition from the Avebury In Danger group and the threat of prosecution by Kennet District Council for alleged planning infringements, Ken and Gillian King say that they will open their 16th century manor home and attractions in the grounds daily from 10am to 6pm. A spokesman at the manor house said: "Everything is going ahead as planned." The only facility in doubt is the bar in the new restaurant which has been built in the former private chapel. Marlborough magistrates are deciding today whether or not to grant restaurant and supper hour licences. Press reports that Peter de Savary, who runs Littlecote House, is not proceeding with injunctions against Avebury Manor over alleged pirating of advertising leaflets have not been confirmed. The attractions at Avebury Manor, for which Mr and Mrs King paid £3 million last summer, include strolling minstrels and jesters, falconry displays, a Civil War armoury, medieval torture chamber and a craft centre.
