First published on July 23, 1996 A VEGETARIAN with a goatee beard and twitching right eye was responsible for a paint attack on the Avebury stone circle. That's according to a coven of white witches from East Sussex who put their pointed hats together to came up with a psychic photo-fit of the culprit. Now two of their number are headed up to the quiet Wiltshire village to carry out a ceremony amidst the vandalised stones in a bid to bring him to justice. The attack on the stones took place in June when symbols were daubed on a number of the stones. Kevin Carlyon, High Priest of the Covenant of Earth Magic, a 37-year-old printer, then held a ceremony at Avebury when he invoked spirits of nature in a bid to exorcise evil from the site. This, he says, was highly successful and his latest efforts have focussed on catching the vandals behind the attack. With this in mind thirteen witches gathered at the seaside resort of Hastings last week and, focussing their minds, came up with their psychic photofit. Another ceremony will be held by the witches at the stones tomorrow. Back to 1996 index |
