First published on August 27th 2002 INTERNET surfers will soon be able to have a live look at the Avebury stones and Devizes Market Place thanks to webcams installed in the visitors’ centres at both locations. The cameras are due to come online in August 2002 and can be accessed at www.kennet.gov.uk It was the brainchild of Kennet’s tourism officer Kairen Kellard and has been funded by the district council. The camera at Avebury is in the new visitor centre in the Baptist chapel and is trained on the South Circle. In the Devizes Visitor Centre, the camera will give a wide-angle view of what is going on in the Market Place, which could be especially interesting on market days and also to the police on Friday and Saturday nights. Maggie Moore, manager of the Devizes visitor centre, said: “It might be of interest to any troublemakers that their activities will be on the net.’’ Back to 2002 index |
