FROM moors, windy hills and rooftops all over Britain, groups of people will be scanning the skies this weekend in the hope of catching sight of something out of the ordinary.

They will be taking part in a 'skywatch' for unidentified flying objects organised by the International Sky Scouts' Association, involving 40,000 members in 23 countries.

The main watch is from 7pm today until 7am tomorrow but the British Unidentified Flying Object Research Association which is taking part, hopes members will continue their 'spotting' over the whole weekend.

The massive 'skywatch' is to commemorate sightings made 20 years ago, on June 24, 1947, by a United States airline pilot. Kenneth Arnold, who spotted 'nine gleaming discs' when flying over Mount Rainer in Washington State.

Mr K W Rogers an official of BUFORA, said they hoped the public would also keep watch on the skies over the weekend and report anything they saw. Every day people are informing us they have seen strange objects and it is now reaching peak much earlier in the year than usual.

They report having seen cigar, oval and dome-shaped objects in the sky as well as discs and flying saucers. At the central control room in Paddingdon, the course of any object will be plotted and members in its line of travel alerted by shortwave radio.

Radio 'hams' will be spread out in different parts of the country so that overseas members can be contacted at the same time.
