14 October 1977 Barbara Kitchen, of Lechlade, witnessed strange lights in the sky and mistook them for fireworks. She said: "I thought it was a firework and I was expecting a bang - there was a long streak of white, then it turned green". Melanie Howes, from Purton, witnessed the UFO in the same night. She said: "I was walking home in the pitch dark when a brilliant light suddenly lit up the sky above me. It was a very large object and it was about 60 feet above me." The next night a UFO was seen in three different places. 17 April 1979 In two separate incidents, several families in Swindon were held spellbound as UFOs hovered over them. In one sighting a whole street was thrown into panic by mystery lights in the sky. Pairs of bright lights were spotted in both incidents. Witness Roy Randall said: "It was like looking at two spotlights in a car - they were like huge yellow lights". 16 February 1989 Evening Advertiser reporter Clive Bennett, an ex-RAF man, witnesses odd lights in the sky as he drove to RAF Fairford He said: "They were red and green and there were white pulsating lights which appeared to be pointing downwards. The white flashing lights were very unusual and I have no idea what they could have been." UFO sightings had been logged over Gloucestershire and Swindon in the week prior to this sighting. 30 May 1994 Swindon couple Ray and Eleanor Baughn spent many nights attempting to film a UFO. They claimed a triangular shaped spacecraft hovered above their home in Pinehurst most evenings. Ray said: "Every time there is trouble in the world, this thing appears. I'm convinced there is something out there". He described it as green, red, and orange coloured, hovering in the air like a spinning top. |
