THE Marlborough white horse is one of the lesser known figures adorning the hillsides of Wiltshire.

It is tucked away on Granham Hill behind Marlborough College, above the village of Preshute.

The small horse was cut in 1804 by pupils of a school in the town. One of the pupils, William Canning, designed the horse and marked it out with pegs.

The horse is said to have become thinner with old age but remains cared for by the local community.
