ANOTHER Japanese professor has travelled thousands of miles to study Wiltshire's corn circles.

Prof Hiroshi Kikuchi, who specialises in applied physics at Nihon University in Tokyo, has joined forces with Dr Terence Meaden of the Circles Effect Research Unit for a fact-finding tour of the corn circles in the Marlborough area. They are comparing formations found at Broad Hinton, Rockley and Alton Barnes. Both scientists specialise in plasma physics and are well-versed in the field of atmospheric electrical effects.

Prof Kikuchi said he had known Dr Meaden for four years and decided to visit Wiltshire to draw up his own model of how the circles are formed. "Basically I agree with Dr Meaden's model, but I am looking into the problem in detail on the basis of a new theory of the electrical dynamics," he said. They believe the circles are formed naturally by atmospherical pressure.

Prof Kikuchi is the latest in a long line of Japanese scientists hoping to crack the mystery of the corn circles. Prof Yoshihiko Ohtsuki led a team which maintained a vigil near Bishops Cannings to see how they are formed. They recorded weather conditions and radiation intensity to aid their research.
