Circles and Ringed Circles

The ringed circle marked a new stage in the evolution of the crop circle, moving from unity towards complexity. Often the rings swirl in different directions, both anti-clockwise and clockwise.

Spinners

Spinners show a particular type of rotating energy in their forms. They first appeared in 1994 with two formations, the Galaxy at Golden Ball Hill and the Manx Runner. In 1995 three more circles continnued this theme with spinning stars, a four point, a five point and finally towards the end of the season, a remarkable formation at Wheathill which included both three and six pointed rotating forms.

Galaxies

The first of the 1994 galaxies appeared at Avebury and was promptly mowed down by the displeased farmer, resulting in only one aerial photograph. They may have tapering arms and are scattered with smaller rings and circles.

Moons

The first crescent formations appeared in 1992. Since then the formations appeared, they have reappeared and evolved, sometimes with horns and sometimes as moons and sometimes with interlocked crescents. The form is simple to achieve by taking a bit out of a larger circle.

Alton Barnes
The formation at Alton Barnes was referred to as a "revelation" by crop circle experts. It used paths and boxes as well as circles and was more than 300 feet in length. This monster signalled the height that crop circles were to achieve. Up until the Milk Hill formation no other circle received as much publicity.

Conjunction

These impressive formations appeared in Blackland in June and July of 1990. The merging is a rare occurence in crop circles, and gives the impression of a satellite hovering around the larger formation. The smaller one appeared later, and at first glance looks similar to a celtic cross.

Quintuplets

Quintuplets vary in size and proportion, but seem to conform to a similar pattern. The whole formation obeys a right angle geometry, and the centre circle is larger than the outside circles. These circles are regarded by many to be elegant in their simplicity.
