Warminster – Still Forgotten but still Alive

In January 2012 we became aware of a new witness that could potentially add information to the events that unfurled in this small Wiltshire Market town almost fifty years ago. During Christmas 1964 Soldiers and other witnesses reported some very strange goings on. At first is was only an audible phenomena, but soon become a UFO hotspot and attracted a lot of attention. A good reference to Warminster can be found at the UFO Warminster website run by Kevin Goodman and Steve Dewey.

We arranged to meet with the witness in February 2012 and discuss their experiences in the town all that time ago. What was special about this witness? After spending time in Germany, he had been posted to Warminster in the spring of 1971 to the School of Infantry. Between arriving in the town and leaving in the summer of 1972 he reports seeing at least three strange things in the skies whilst carrying out his military duties.

The base was busy back then with a steady turn over of soldiers arriving and leaving as their training began and ended. The witness, let us call him Dave, had numerous duties to support the training exercises that were conducted day and night. Dave took up regular guard duty during the night as well as being in charge of signing out (and back) in the munitions that would be used during each exercise. These munitions consisted of everything from bullets to Flares and Rockets.

Of the three sightings reported by Dave, one was of particular interest. The sighting, a yellowish light streaked through the sky and appeared to crash into the ground near Salisbury Plain.

Dave Said, ‘They [his sightings] were not related to the exercises going on, they came the wrong way, from over the town towards the plain

He continued, “I used to come back to the house and tell my wife about the strange things we’d seen that night although there were lots of ‘shooting stars’ around“.

It was during the winter of 1971 that Dave saw the sighting that he and his patrol believed had crashed near Salisbury Plan. The soldiers thought they had seen where it had landed, but despite a good search they found nothing.

We expected to find something buried into the ground ” said Dave.

The search was unofficial and never reported to anyone at the base.

In those days”, said Dave, “We didn’t talk about it. We didn’t know about the place or what had happened, we only found that out many years later whilst watching TV”.

“There was never any hint of something ‘going on’ at the base. There were no rumors flying around about anything really’.

What did our witness see that night? What streaked in over the small town of Warminster and crashed into the ground? Whatever it was it was strange enough to cause some solders to start an unofficial search!

The full interview with the witness will be available shortly.
