An amazing set of celestial coincidences, may have led to the fate of the Titanic sinking.

The latest theory from scientists, is that icebergs swept into the path of the ill-fated liner due to a rare conjunction of the Moon and Sun.

During a spring tide that brought the moon on the closest approach to earth for 1,400 years, coupled with a close encounter between the earth and sun, the gravitational effect was abnormally strong. This lead to high sea levels enabling icebergs to dislodge and move into the shipping lanes.
