Cavalier approach is too much

Tourist Erik Wasmann became a fleeing Dutchman when he was woken up in his Cotswold hotel room - by a GHOST!

The spectre of a Cavalier in full Royalist uniform was enough to make terrified Mr Wasmann cut short his stay in the historic King's Head hotel in Cirencester and check out.

"He was very rattled by it and we could not persuade him to stay, even though we offered him a different room," said manager Michael Bush.

"He had booked in for four days but this happened on his first night and he decided not to hang around. He couldn't wait to leave." Mr Bush said the Dutch guest, who was in his late twenties and travelling alone, claimed he had woken feeling very cold.

"He says he then saw a well dressed Cavalier standing in his room - he described him as fairly solid but transparent around the ages." Mr Bush, who started work at the hotel only five weeks ago, said he had since found out that it is reputedly haunted by three seperate ghosts.

"Since this happened, word has spread around the town and I have had several phone calls from past members of staff who have seen ghosts here," he said.

Mr Bush is now building up a history of the hotel hauntings and is appealing to anyone who has had uncanny experiences at the King's Head.
