THE figure of a grey lady haunts the historic rooms of the Castle Combe Manor House. 
In the 19th Century a family with a young daughter reported a series of strange occurrences. Before leaving the house the young girl stood in front of a portrait of the unknown grey lady and said to her parents "That's my second nanny". The figure apparently visited the girl every night before she went to bed. A dog walker has heard strange groans and voices in nearby Parsonage Woods - the woods were a major fighting ground in a battle between the Anglo Saxons and the Danes in 879AD. |
