SWINDON council house tenant Beverley Walsh says she is being forced out of her home by ghosts.

Beverley, 22, has been so frightened by the haunting she is seeking medical help for a nervous rash and near exhaustion. She lives with her 15-month-old son, Kris, in Melksham Close, Penhill.

Said Beverley: "In the past two weeks strange things have been happening. "My bed was pushed from the middle of the room against a wall and I felt someone or something pulling at the back of my jumper.

"I have also heard tapping on the window of the back bedroom but whenever I go to take a look there is nothing there. "I want to get out of here Ð I dare not go to bed until it gets light at about 5am.

"I told Thamesdown Council about it and they said I was just taking too much notice of local rumours." Previous residents have had similar spooky experiences. One couple was driven out by an evil, mischievous spirit five years ago.

A large question mark was dug out of the lawn and planted with flowers in the front garden. Said Beverley: "An old man who used to live here did it. Apparently he was being haunted and made the question mark as if to say: Why me?"

In 1980 teenage couple Perry and Donna Boyce were rehoused after furniture was hurled across the room and door locks were smashed. Eventually they fled the house in terror after a particularly fearsome night. The house was blessed soon after but never exorcised.

Beverley said: "The neighbours are very sceptical and say I'm just making it up to get rehoused but they don't have to live here. "I want out before my nerves are completely shattered. I don't hold out much hope of the council acting quickly thought."

No council spokesman was available for comment.
