First published in September 3, 1996 Ghosts arise to silence TV stalker Television presenter Dave Barrett was well and truely spooked when he went filming in Devizes. The former GWR radio personality was making a film about paranormal activities in Devizes for cable channel Live TV. Mr Barrett and his crew were following local historian John Girvan on his ghost walk around the town when the incident happened at Gallows Ditch on Hillworth Road. The spot is an ancient execution ground. When the presenter tried to interview Mr Girvan at the site, the radio microphones did not work. "The radio microphones were knocked out by a mysterious external energy," said Mr Girvan. "Dave Barrett had to use a hand-held microphone with a direct cable to the camera. "But after we left the site the radio microphones worked again perfectly normally." The film, scheduled to be shown in the Autumn, is part of the Why Files programme on this channel. Viewers in Devizes will not be able to see the broadcast, because it is only on cable television. John Girvan's ghost walks will begin again in October.
