THAMESDOWN Council may call in a ghostbuster to investigate the haunted house of Penhill.

Beverley Walsh, of 21 Melksham Close, says she is being scared to death by strange and spooky happenings in the house. Five years ago a teenage couple was rehoused after fleeing in terror from an evil poltergeist which threw furniture across rooms and smashed door locks.

Mrs Walsh has asked the council to rehouse her and her baby son Kris. She is also seeing a doctor for treatment of nerves she says the haunting brought on.

Today Thamesdown housing chief Derique Montaut told the Adver Mrs Walsh's complaints would be investigated. He said a housing officer would visit the house and quiz Mrs Walsh on her ghostly claims.

He added: "We cannot rule out any option. "If we feel her distress is genuine and caused a haunting we would consider bringing in a psychic expert to investigate the house.

"We could also ask one of our staff to stay in the house overnight. "We would certainly rehouse her is the claims she has made turn out to be founded, but we are also aware that sometimes people use excuses like this to try and get quick transfers.

"Our inquiries have revealed that nobody has ever died in the house and the question mark in the garden was put there by a previous tenant who was asked to tidy up his garden. "We feel it was just a micky take at the council's expense."

Coun Montaut added: "I don't believe in ghosts but we are concerned for our tenants' welfare and if Mrs Walsh is being caused genuine stress through living in that house we will do all we can to help her.

"These phenomena seem to happen at very irregular intervals, though, so it will be very hard to investigate properly."
