First Published June 23 1966 AFTER a three-month quest to find a new tenant for a 'haunted house' Swindon Corporation has been successful. The Tucker family, who complained to the council of noises, weird apparitions and a sinister atmosphere, have been rehoused. The house at 323 Penhill Drive, was subsequently exorcised. A spokesman for the Corporation confirmed that the house had been let to a Londoner and said that the house would have been let earlier but for publicity. All prospective tenants had been briefed on the house's history. Several people had been to see the house and turned it down, Mrs P Law, a neighbour informed an Evening Advertiser reporter yesterday. Yesterday Mrs Gladys Tucker said at her new home: 'We are very happy here and the family is re-united again. Even the dog seems happier. We all want to forget the whole incident.' Recently a man believed to be the new tenant went to see the Tuckers about the house. 'I told him what had happened at our Penhill house,' said Mrs Tucker. 'I believe in telling the truth about our experiences. I told him. 'For your sake and the children I hope you are happy there.' Mrs Tuckers son Victor who left their former home because of the events is now back with his family. Back to 1966 index |
