First Published April 24 1977 WEIRD lettering that has all the trappings of the supernatural are mystifying a Swindon man.. The 'message from beyond' - white lettering against a flowing red panel - came suddenly as Ernest Coram was sitting in the living room at his home in Quarry Road. After an hour they disappeared leaving no trace against the neat blue and white pattern of his wallpaper. The ghost writing appeared long enough for 83-year-old Mr Coram to study it and to copy the letters. 'They did not make words or any sense,' he said. He did consider that perhaps someone or something unseen was trying to communicate with him. 'I am psychic,' he says. 'I have seen ghosts and I remember them vividly. I could draw them though they appeared to me many years ago.' Mr Coram has lived in his present house for 15 years and up until the writing appeared has never seen any psychic phenomena there. He lives alone, his wife died 15 months ago and is house bound. The 'happenings' started on Sunday night, when his bedroom seemed to be filled with hundreds of old photographs, portraits of people from about the beginning of the century, fluttering in the air. Last night, the glowing red light appeared in his bedroom. This time it was in the shape of a cross, floating in the air. Mr Coram said he saw the cross for about five minutes. In neither case was there any noise, any sensation of a strange atmosphere, or any indication of the source of the light. 'I am not at all scared but I am interested in what it can mean,' said Mr Coram. 'It does seem likely that someone from beyond, or perhaps from another planet, is trying to communicate, but so far it is all a mystery.' Back to 1977 index |
