Spook back to welcome pair

JOHN Barter and Sue Keevil had only been licensees of The Sun Inn in Marlborough for a few weeks, when they became victim of the pub's famous spook which has haunted landlords and staff for many years.

The pair have not yet seen the ghost, who is said to stalk the cellars and bars of the centuries old pub, but it has made its presence felt.

Without any explicable reason the clock in the pub kitchen fell from the wall into a sink of water.

But another mystery is intriguing customers. During the installation of better lighting in the public bar a glass fronted case was discovered secured to one of the beams close to the ceiling. 'It was so dingy we had not noticed it and customers who have been drinking here for 44 years said they had never seen it before,' said Mr Barter.

It contains an old wooden shafted golf club but there is no information of why it has been displayed. Mr Barter said: 'Perhaps everybody got fed up with hearing a golfer going on about his game all the time and decided to take his club away. We would love to know why it is there.'

The pair have built up a reputation for their fish restaurant, with the menu featuring such rarities as parrot fish - flown in fresh from the tropics - barracuda and pike.
