First published on October 31, 1994 The pub with real spirits! A clairvoyant called in to investigate ghostly goings-on at an historic pub has confirmed the bar is haunted. Supernatural expert Arminta - real name Margaret Blandford - staged a pre-Hallowe'en ghost watch at the weekend at the Black Horse pub in Wroughton. Arminta, from Cheltenham, says she saw a host of ghostly figures from the upstairs windows of the pub. And downstairs she saw a gentleman ghost dressed in an old-fashioned powdered wig and brocade waistcoat. Arminta told pub landlord Eddie Lister and bar manager Denise Strutthoff that the ghost was writing a poem for them. "In the lounge-bar she said there was a man using a quill pen who was writing a poem and she said it was for us," said Denise. "It was a poem telling us to be happy and not down-hearted about anything." Quite a few of the staff say they have noticed barely-visible figures when the pub is quiet. But when they go to see if anyone is there, the bar turns out to be empty. "Nobody has ever felt frightened in the pub or had bad feelings about it," said Denise. Back to 1994 index |
